    Abstract
    The Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey was launched by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) of Mauritius in 1999. The primary objective of this survey is the ongoing collection of data for compiling socio-economic indicators of development in the country.

    Notes

    Mauritius' Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey collected the following data on households:

    -Geography: District, regional stratum, PSU number, enumeration area
    -Household Characteristics: Type of building, type of housing unit (one-household, multi-household housing unit), type of ownership of the housing unit, and number of rooms
    -Characteristics of household members: Relationship to head, age, sex, marital status, and health status, education and training, employment status, working conditions, income and expenditure, plus further data on:
    Women: Women's activities and responsibilities, task sharing within the household, and decision marking at household level
    The elderly (aged 60 and older): Physical disability and dependence, leisure activities, economic resources and support

    Sampling Procedure
    The Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey has been conducted by the Central Statistical Office of Mauritius since 1999. Each year, a sample of around 6,000 private households is selected to represent the set of all such households in the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues. Each month some 500 of these households are surveyed. The first round of the survey scheduled for the period April 1999 to March 2000 but ended in December 1999 because of the taking of the decennial Housing and Population Census in 2000. During these nine months, a total of 4,725 households were surveyed.
