Each year, a sample of around 6,000 private households is selected to represent the set of all such households in the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues. Each month some 500 of these households are surveyed. The first round of the survey scheduled for the period April 1999 to March 2000 but ended in December 1999 because of the taking of the decennial Housing and Population Census in 2000.
