Sampling

Sampling Procedure
The sample allocation was approximately proportional to the 1991 population census. All samples were drawn with a probability proportional to size. Those sample sizes were: Blacks 1 100, Whites 400, Coloureds 300, Asians 200.
Weighting
The data were weighted according to the adjusted 1991 population census data per population group per geographical region. The weighting corrects any bias in the sample data on age, gender and educational qualifications of each population group. Then two sets of weights were calculated for the population in general and for the age group of 18 years and older.
