Description
DataFirst is a Data Service and Research Unit based at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. We give researchers online access to African data and support them to analyse the data. We require a Data Analyst to prepare data files and metadata for datasets published on our data site. We are looking for someone with strong quantitative and analytical skills in the Social Sciences as well as the ability to write clearly. They should have a talent for learning new tasks and show attention to detail. This is a five-year full-time contract position
Requirements include:
- NQF 8 qualification in Economics or Statistics or any cognate discipline
- At least one year of experience in research data management
- Advanced skills in Stata data analysis software
- A good working knowledge of Access and Excel software
- Ability to write in English clearly and concisely
- Skills in working with quantitative projects
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, and analyse data
Responsibilities include:
- Data cleaning (quality checks and disclosure control), data preparation
- Creation of metadata for datasets according to international metadata standards
- Creation of analytic documents for data depositors
- Online support to data users
- Vetting of research output from researchers using the Secure Research Data Centre
The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R371,131 and R436,624.
